5 HAUNTED PLACES IN UDAIPUR

1 SAJJANGARH FORT –

The Monsoon Palace, also known as the Sajjangarh Palace, is a hilltop palatial residence in the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan in India, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake. It is named Sajjangarh after Maharana Sajjan Singh (1874–1884) of the Mewar Dynasty, who built it in 1884. The palace offers a panoramic view of the city's lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside. It was built chiefly to watch the monsoon clouds; hence, appropriately, it is popularly known as Monsoon Palace. It is said that the Maharana built it at the top of the hill to get a view of his ancestral home, Chittaurgarh. It is believed that the underground floor of Sajjangarh Fort remains locked and inaccessible by tourists. There are several stories that the old recite that there have been incidents when people felt something unnatural while exploring the underground rooms of Sajjangarh fort, due to several complaints it has now been locked to control the situation. Also tourists are not allowed to stay at the fort after 7pm in the evening because it is situated on the top of a hill and the road to reach it very risky.


2 GULAB BAGH –

Gulab Bagh is situated at the center of the city, spread from the edges of Surajpole and Udiapole area, and the nearest colonies are Nayio ki Talai, Choti Brahmpuri, Kalaji-Goraji and Mograwadi. Various Hotels and other attractions like Vintage and Classic Car Museum, Pala Ganesh Temple are situated near around this place for visitors. Situated quite near Pichola Lake on Lake Palace Road, Gulab Bagh is an interesting park in the southeast of City Palace complex. The vast 100 acres land of Gulab Bagh Garden bears another world within its premises. It is not allowed to visit this garden at night; many people have claimed that exorcism is performed in the masjids in the Gulab Bagh Garden. An Udaipur local stated to hear screams which constituted of a mixture of male and female voice. People usually leave the garden gradually when it starts getting dark.


3 BADI LAKE –

Lake Badi, situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is an artificial fresh water lake. The lake was built in the village of Badi, about 12 km from the city of Udaipur, by Maharana Raj Singh I (1652-1680) to counter the shocking effects of a famine. He named it Jiyan Sagar after his mother Jana Devi. The lake covers an area of 155 km and has an embankment 180 m. long and 18 m. wide, which is graced by three artistic chhatris. During the drought of 1973, the lake supplied water to the people of Udaipur. The Badi Lake gives a view of a never-ending expanse providing a serene and calm atmosphere to the visitors. The lake is amongst the major tourist attractions of the city. The area surrounding Badi Lake is covered with dense forest and mountains; it is believed that at night various wild beings also roam on the roads constructed near the lake. If you visit Badi Lake you’ll experience a mysterious calmness in the water of Badi Lake. People are warned by their elders not to visit Badi Lake at the dark peak hours.


4 DOODH TALAI LAKE –

Doodh Talai Lake or Dudh Talai lake, is a small pond located adjacent to the Lake Pichola, near Shiva Niwas Palace (residence of Maharana Fateh Singh), in the heart of Udaipur. The Doodh Talai Lake is located very much near the center of the Udaipur City. It is around 24 km away from Udaipur Airport, and just 4 km from Udaipur City railway station and Udaipur City Bus Depot. Visitors can also take local Tongas, auto-rickshaws and taxis to reach Doodh Talai. Few locals of Udaipur also claimed that the road surrounding Doodh Talai Lake starting from the Hanuman Temple till Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park is said to be a home for spooky components. According to a resident of Udaipur, at midnight when he and his friends went on a drive to Doodh Talai Lake, on the same mysterious road their car halted and in few minutes it started moving backwards. He claimed that one of his friends became unconscious at the very moment, they then started chanting some religious mantra and in another few minutes the car started automatically and they drove off then.


5 RANA KUMBHA PALACE –

Rana Kumbha Palace is situated inside the Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan. It is located near the Vijay Stambha close to the entrance gate. The ruins of the once famous palace have the temple of Lord Shiva, Zanana mahal, Diwan -e -aam, along with a stable for horses. According to the legends, the founder of the city of Udaipur, Maharana Udai Singh was born here, and his life was saved by his wet nurse Panna Dai, who hid him inside a fruit basket. This place was once the home of the famous bhakti poetess Meerabai. It is also believed, that Rani Padmini organized her jauhar inside this fort. The best time to visit this fort is during the winter season or late autumn. It gets too hot during the spring and summer month and thus it is advisable to avoid the area during those periods. One can still visit the fort and explore the fire pit; people have reported to hear the screams of women asking for help.
